The Chairwoman of Chernihiv Region Charity “Aratta” Victoria Filatova and Manager on Projects Tatyana Marynashenko told how Aratta managed to develop charity work in the districts and in the villages of our region at a Chernihiv press club meeting. The directors of Arattas in Gorodnya, Shchors and Makoshyno also met the journalists.

Shchors is a small picturesque town with a population of about 11230 people. Many people able to work want to get a job, but nowadays it is not easy to find one. The railways are almost finished now. The plant which produced electrical goods is no longer working. The unemployment rate is about 40 %. But it’s much harder for the disabled kids, orphans and low-income families. The news about the opening of Chernihiv Region Charity “Aratta” branch in Shchors was greeted with enthusiasm both by the public and by the newly-created staff.
Charlotte Enen from Great Britain came to Ukraine this summer where she found out about Aratta and the Centre of Social Services work. This interview tells us about Charlotte’s trip to Ukraine and her personal impressions.
All citizens and guests of Chernihiv are delighted with the historical sights of the city on the Desna river. Chernihiv is the only city in Ukraine where so many sights from the Domonhol period have been saved. Boldina Hill has the biggest collection of pagan burial mounds in Eastern Europe. It also has the ancient Ilinska church and Anthony Caves. This is known as the National historico – architectural preserve called “Ancient Chernihiv”.
The six families who got into the final contest were rewarded with an unforgettable trip to the Museum of folk architecture, which is in the village of Pyrohiv, South of Kyiv. More than 300 items from XVI – XX centuries were brought here from different regions of Ukraine: The Carpathians, the south of Ukraine and other parts of the country.
I don’t understand why but nowadays families with many children are thought of as being unfit. They are considered to be poor, badly dressed, hungry and cruel; and the children often fall into bad company. People don’t understand why women give birth to three or more children. They feel sorry for her and try to find excuses for her like she has been unlucky or she is an alcoholic and she doesn’t care. Sometimes people think that she believes in God too much and that’s she has so many children.
Chernihiv Regional Charity “Aratta” conducted a round-table discussion about the project “Children from the Street”. The goal of this project is to prevent negative phenomena among teenagers from so-called risk groups and the socialization of these teenagers. The youth club for 13-18 year old children is intended to instil in them a feeling that they are needed, to encourage their interests and to develop their abilities.
On October the 14th Chernihiv Public Organization “”Moloda Prosvita” held a huge party for young people with songs dancing, games and delicious Cossack food and on Red Square. The party was dedicated to the Ukrainian Cossack holiday.
Chernihiv Region Charity “Aratta” has just started the realization of its new project “Together to the future”.
