With an open
heart towards families with many children
I
don’t understand why but nowadays families with many children are
thought of as being unfit. They are considered to be poor, badly dressed,
hungry and cruel; and the children often fall into bad company. People
don’t understand why women give birth to three or more children. They
feel sorry for her and try to find excuses for her like she has been
unlucky or she is an alcoholic and she doesn’t care. Sometimes people
think that she believes in God too much and that’s she has so many
children.
Of course nobody has the right to blame a mother who gives birth but
common sense should prevail. These are difficult times, but any
historical period is difficult enough as it is. During the Great
Patriotic War there were a lot of families with many children especially
in the villages.
In the countryside the land could feed large families. What can such
families do if they live in the city surrounded by multi – storied
buildings, concrete and noisy traffic?
For many years Chernihiv Region Charity “Aratta” has not been
indifferent to the problems of families with many children. Aratta’s
volunteers always try to find out the needs of these families and try to
improve their material wellbeing. Aratta’s efforts are focused on the
development of
the children’s education and how they spend their free time. Together
with other non-governmental organizations and local authorities Aratta’s
volunteers promote motherhood and child protection and provide help to
children from needy families and to families who have a lot of kids.
With the help of Chernihiv Agency of Regional Development Aratta has set
up a competition for families with many children. 48 families applied to
take part. But only 6 of the best and the most gifted families made it
to the final round, which took place on October, 7th. Before the
beginning of the final Tetyana Marinashenko, the leader of the project,
greeted all the families and wished them good luck. It lasted more than
2 hours. Each family had the chance to win. For this reason, members of
the jury, after a long discussion, decided not to call out the winner.
All the participants were taken on a trip to the Museum of folk
architecture near the village of Pyrohiv.
Hanna Kuzmenko, the mother of a large family, made clear that for the
first time she could properly look after her family. As a result she is
more hopeful about the future.
It was a beautiful evening, a lovely atmosphere and everybody really
enjoyed themselves. It only lasted for two hours but they will probably
remember it for many years. I wish there were more things like this and
that more people would give to families in need. This shows that you
will only get out of life what you put in.
