She explained that needy families and families with many children from Gorodnya, Shchors and Mena districts now had an opportunity to receive help. The chairwoman of “Aratta” told about the activity of the public organization. From its foundation in June 1998 thanks to the constant support of the director of “British Humanitarian Aid”, Tony Budell, children from needy families and children’s homes have received nearly 125 tons of humanitarian aid. During the seven years of activity Aratta members regularly help 150 families, that bring up 250 children. Annually, more than 200 children attend various groups and clubs free of charge, 30 internats and other children’s institutions of the region regularly receive humanitarian aid. Likewise Aratta children have an opportunity to get psychological help and they use the services of the hairdresser and masseuse free of charge. In the summer children enjoy a rest and a holiday in the ecological camps. The representatives of the district Arattas told the journalists about the difficulties they had to overcome from the beginning of their work. It took a lot of time to find the buildings for the Arattas. It also took a lot of efforts to recruit volunteers to work with needy families and families with many children. “ The gratitude of the children is sufficient reward”. Tatyana Marynashenko, the leader of the project told about the project “Together to the future”, which will be continued this year. The project aims to involve children, aged 13-18, from needy families and families with many children in various activities. T. Marynashenko mentioned that such an approach had the possibility to save them from hanging around on the streets. About 50 were chosen to participate in the project according to the recommendation of Region Family and Youth Department. In their free time children visit concerts, attend theatres and watch movies. “Aratta” helps them to learn computer skills and English. Also children are explained their rights. Hence, the experience of the charity “Aratta” demonstrates the effectiveness of such work with needy families and families with many children. The participants of the meeting came to the conclusion that these experiences need to be spread to other districts in Chernihiv region and more people need to be encouraged to get involved in charity work. |
