An unforgettable trip to the open
air museum for the final round winners
The
six families who got into the final contest were rewarded with an
unforgettable trip to the Museum of folk architecture, which is in the
village of Pyrohiv, South of Kyiv. More than 300 items from XVI XX
centuries were brought here from different regions of Ukraine: The
Carpathians, the south of Ukraine and other parts of the country.
Most of all the children and their families were
struck by the village huts, which are the same as they used to be in the
past in various regions of Ukraine. People were impressed by the wooden
churches, which are a completely unique type of architecture, which is
not found anywhere else in the world. Everybody enjoyed the collection
of windmills, which is on the highest hill.
The
guide made clear to us that there are more than 70 thousand items, for
instance antique tools, embroidery, pottery etc. Such a collection shows
the spiritual and material
unity. People celebrate holidays of folk art where they sing forgotten
Ukrainian songs and perform old ceremonies. Specialists of folk art
demonstrate their skills and you can buy their unique handcraft.
But more than anything it was the autumn colours that made the biggest
impression on the children and their families. Again nature was saying
good-bye to the summer with the most wonderful shades of gold and yellow,
which merged into one autumn melody.
The day passed quickly. Both the kids and their parents left the museum
with heavy hearts. They felt a sadness and at the same time a deep
connection to their own land.
