On January 5, 2007,
the guests from England visited “ARATTA”.
They were Tony Budell, Alec Phillips and Patsy Bates. Toni Buddle is a director and a founder of a charity in England “ British Humanitarian Aid” and a charity “ARATTA” in Chernihiv, Ukraine. Alec Phillips and Patsy Baits are volunteers from England, who help collect, transport humanitarian aid for Ukrainian children. Guests were present at the Christmas celebrations at “ARATTA”. They also visited the branches of “ARATTA” in districts of Chernihiv region. They especially liked visiting the branch in Makoshino, a village in the Mena district. They brought humanitarian aid to the village to be distributed in Makoshino and nearby villages. Guests saw traditional rites New Year’s celebrations, heard national songs, saw VERTEP, and visited the new building of charitable organization “DESCENDANTS OF ARATTA”.
Alec Phillips
Born in England, now living in Chernihov and working in Europe. First visited Ukraine in September 2005 with John Bushby (convoy of aid from BHA) I made a lot of new friends, including Lara, we married in august 2006 in Chernihov!! I now liaise with john and BHA in England and try to help at Aratta when I am at home. My next project will be a motorcycle trip from England to Ukraine, so watch this space!!
Patsy Bates
I live in Penmaenmalor, North Wales.
My first time in Chernihiv was in January 1997 and I have now visited 6 times, although the last time I was here was 2003.
The difference at “Aratta”, in that time, is immense, many more people involved, the centre is much improved decoratively and organizationally, there are now many clubs both for children and adults enabling them to learn and train others.
I had not visited for so long due to health reasons. And after a while I missed seeing my friends and decided that life is too short for waiting around, so armed with plenty of medication, I came back and found my friends looking much healthier and much happier than before (even though there is no snow).
