October 30, 2012 Katherine Romero, Peace Corps volunteer, visited Chernihiv some years ago. She studied Ukrainian before going to work in one of Ukrainian public organizations for two years. She lived in the family of Oksana Shumar, an Aratta’s volunteer. After her volunteer work in Ukraine Katherine Romero returned back to America and told her colleagues and friends about this far away unknown country. The information about Aratta reached Jerry Marynyuk who is an American of Ukrainian origin and a member of a Community of Help to Ukraine in California. He has an experience of delivery and distribution of equipment for handicapped people from the USA to Ukraine. In October 2012 Jerry came to Ukraine together with experienced doctors from the USA and Katherine Selengia from the American organization «Wheels for Humanity». They came to distribute the equipment for handicapped people to Drohobych, Lviv region. Taking the opportunity, Jerry wrote to Victoria Filatova and they arranged a meeting in Chernihiv Aratta. At the end of October he came to us together with Katherine. They got acquainted with our organization, met volunteers, talked lively about life of Ukrainians in the USA and charity work of two organizations which they represented and agreed on future cooperation. To understand the needs of handicapped people of Chernihiv region our guests visited the Labour and Social Defence Administration, Rehabilitation Center for handicapped “Vidrodzhennya”, organization “Logos”.
