Representatives of Chernigiv on behalf of Ukraine at the festival of fine theatres in Poland.

Active members of two public organizations from Chernigiv, namely “Aratta” and “Chance” took part in the VIII International Festival of Fine Theatres in Tschev, Poland. This event has a special mission. It is the support of people with special needs and development of their creative potential.

Last week the members of two theatre studios from “Aratta” public organization and from city public union of handicapped people “Chance” were presenting our city and Ukraine at the VIII International Festival of Fine Theatres in Poland.

This festival united more than 400 participants from 10 countries all over the world. This year at the festival there were theatres from Poland, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Germany, Slovakia, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Belarus and Ukraine. The organizers of the festival are “Association for the education of special children” and “Centre of specialised education”.

The main objectives of the festival are as follows:
• to further the development of creative activities of handicapped people;
• to eliminate the psychological barrier between able and disable people;
• to share experience related to methods and forms of work with people having special needs.

The organizers of that grand event believe that it is possible to eliminate the barrier in the framework of art. That is the reason they try to provide the opportunity for people with limited physical abilities to express themselves in art. The performances of our two theatre studios “DYVOSAD” (Magic Garden) (“Aratta” Charity) and “Chance” (city public union of handicapped people) drew loud applause from the audience. These two performances were dedicated to two very different topics. One named “Rushnyk” (traditional Ukrainian embroidered towel) was about the historical path of Ukraine with demonstration of national traditions and customs. And the other one “The Snow Queen” is the well-known fairy tale but in modern interpretation.

The actors of both studios worked hard and were anxious but onstage they were on their best. Each one played their own part and at the same time was aware of the personal importance for the effect of the performance. The performances of Chernigiv theatres were highly appreciated by the audience. Theatre studio “DYVOSAD” of regional charitable organization “Aratta” got the award “For originality and development of Ukrainian culture and traditions, for expression of national idea”. And “Chance” studio of public union of handicapped people was prized with “Audience Choice Award”.

Participants of the festival note that it is a great honour and prestige to take part in the event like that. Long before the actual start of the festival in Poland they announce the contest for volunteers and sponsors who wish to back up the Festival of Fine Theatres with funds and voluntary work. Unfortunately in our city we have not developed such tradition yet. But we hope that next time our Chernigiv philanthropists will help our theatre studios to better prepare for the festival and make the participation in it possible. The most important thing is the provision of proper travel facilities for young actors with special needs. They badly need a comfortable coach for the trip. We call for you, philanthropists! You are very welcome!
