September, 29, 2007 At the end of September yet another «Convoy of Hope» has arrived from Great Britain to Chernihiv Regional Charity «Aratta» - it was three lorries loaded with humanitarian aid for needy families from Chernihiv region, the total weight of which was 26781 kg. The lorries’ drivers are in the picture from the left side to the right – Derek Hilness, Alec Phillips, David Gambling from Great Britain, Jindrich Rajtr from Czech Republic , John Bushby from Great Britain. They managed to cover the distance from England to Ukraine in 4 days and were received here with traditional Ukrainian hospitality by volunteers of “Aratta” for all four days they spent in Chernihiv. During that time they have visited branch of our organization at v.Makoshino, Mena district, have helped to unload humanitarian aid, and also have had a chance to get to know better our beautiful city. This visit of English divers was not their first time in Ukraine. For instance John Bushby has been to Chernihiv more then 9 times earlier. And each time he collects a team of drivers and leads “Convoy of Hope”, Alec Phillips at first came as a driver and then he got married and moved to live here. At the same time he keeps doing charitable work. In such way “Aratta” has got a new wheels set and a tachograph for the bus of organization and a small trailer to make humanitarian aid delivery to villages easier. Also Alec Phillips has realized charitable trip by motorcycle KAWASAKI from Skegness, England to Chernihiv, Ukraine. He left England at 18.45 hours Saturday 28th July 2007 and arrived at Ukrainian evening school number 3 in Chernihiv at 11.00 hours Monday 30th July 2007, making stops only for fuel and food. The money raised from the trip was enough to buy 4 new computer systems, a laser photocopier/printer/scanner, and new lighting system for the computer room and various tools for the school maintenance department. School had a competition for the pupils to guess the exact mileage recorded on the Kawasaki trip computer with cash prize of us$ 200 for the pupil who made the closest guess. The actual mileage for the trip was 2,885.0 kilometers and the closest guess was 2,880.0 kilometers.
